Your first steps
with a hardware wallet
A hardware wallet changes where your private keys live. Getting comfortable with that change starts with a few deliberate choices—not technical expertise.
Begin by checking the source of your device and navigating to the official Trezor website yourself. Download Trezor Suite only from the official source, then connect your device and follow its setup prompts. Take time to understand each screen; if something feels unexpected, pause and verify before proceeding.
During setup, your device may create a recovery seed: the words that can restore access if your device is lost or damaged. Write them down using the method recommended for your model, and store the backup offline in a private, secure place. Never photograph it, save it in cloud storage, or share it with anyone. A support representative, website, or app should never ask you to disclose those words.
Before sending cryptocurrency, practice reading transaction details carefully. Verify the recipient address and amount on your device itself, not only on your computer screen. For a new destination, a small test transfer can help you confirm the process. Keep your firmware and companion software current through official channels, and treat unexpected messages or urgent requests with healthy skepticism.
Most importantly, self-custody is a responsibility, not a promise of risk-free investing. Learn at your own pace, protect your recovery backup, and only transact when you understand what you are approving. Small, repeatable habits are the foundation of confident ownership.
A helpful rule to keep close
Your recovery phrase belongs to you alone. Anyone asking for it is not helping you protect your wallet.
